iPhone 4th gen leaks are no new news now, with roughly a week to the official launch the rumors and leaks are still flowing. Here we have a Czech site getting their hands on the iPhone 4th gen display and they have put it to test under the microscope to reveal the pixel density and display type.
According to the detailed analysis by superiphone.cz it is revealed that the display type in the iPhone 4G is the same as the iPad i.e. IPS. The screen resolution thus quadruples to 960X640 from the current 480X320. The pixel density on the display is 320 dpi (double the no of pixels both vertically and horizontally compared to the 3GS) which is way more than what we have seen in the Motorola Droid or even the Nexus One.
We have already heard why Apple can’t go with the AMOLED display on the 4G, but it seems they still have something awesome to show us at WWDC on June 7th.
The big advantage of exactly doubling the vertical and horizontal resolution of the iPhone’s screen is that backward compatibility with existing apps would be trivial to implement. A similar pixel-doubling system is already in place for running iPhone applications on the iPad. [Macrmors]
