Ever since Apple updated its iOS to fight the PDF bug, the Jailbreakme.com jailbreak disappeared. It was always on tender hooks with a major exploit being exposed on the Apple mobile platform. Now that Apple has its temporary (unplanned) updates to the iOS rolled out i.e. V4.0.2 for the iPhone 4 / 3GS / 3G iPod touch 2G / 3G and 3.2.2 for iPad – the Dev team sees no value in jailbreaking them just yet. As it seems they again want to wait for a major iOS release (upcoming version 4.1 for iPhone / iPad) and then rollout their tools.
The cat and mouse game would continue between hackers and Apple, but its a wise decision for the DevTeam to wait for the multitasking to come on iPad and the 4th gen iPod touch to also come out before they tell the world what exploit they have up their sleeves. Best of luck folks!
Now it’s a few weeks later, and Apple has closed the jailbreakme.com hole. They’re shipping devices with FW 4.0.2/3.2.2, impervious to this particular jailbreak. So now, people will begin to ask: will there be a jailbreak for devices that shipped with 4.0.2/3.2.2, out of the box?
No, there won’t be. FW 4.0.2/3.2.2 was *only* released to fix the jailbreakme hole. With FW 4.1 still in its beta stages, it makes no sense to escalate the “cat & mouse” with Apple for FW updates that only fix the jailbreak holes. [Dev Team]
