AT&T has put up with the heavy requirements of the iPhone since long now and at the same time enjoyed exclusivity for a long time. As the rumored date for a Verizon iPhone comes closer, it seems that AT&T is making full use of the exclusivity it has for the iPhone 4 currently. AT&T has activated a record 5.2 million iPhones (2.6 million of these are new subscribers) last quarter and thats a whole lot of iPhones given the total iPhone sales for the quarter was 14.1 million as reported by Apple.
AT&T has spent billions on upgrading its network to support the data hungry iPhone and has recently got a few Android / WP7 phones added to its lineup aswell. With 92.8 million subscriber base, is AT&T ready to let a Verizon iPhone come to compete with them?
