Verizon has been a super partner for Motorola to revive its mobile division and we all know the amount of hype and impact the Droid made. But it seems that Motorola now has a reason to worry about its strong partnership with Verizon.
During his keynote at Credit Suisse 2010 Technology Conference, Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha revealed some plans for 2011. Be sure that this is the same person who tipped off a 2GHz phone before 2010 comes to an end, but here is what he has this time around.
Mr Jha made it clear that Motorola would have a 7″ and 10″ tablet in the market in early 2011 and at the same time 4G smartphones. Motorola’s mantra for tablet seems to be software differentiation from its competition. Does that mean their own OS or customized Android? or just a lead on getting Honeycomb sooner? Remember Motorola now owns a mobile OS company Azingo, so they certainly have some software skills acquired already.
But perhaps the highlight here is the Verizon iPhone hints that Mr Jha dropped. Speaking of Q1 2011 performance of Motorola mobility he warned about a “competitive dynamic” coming up at Verizon. Which can be nothing but the iPhone CDMA to be enough to worry Motorola at the moment.
A lot of questions come up in our minds and will Apple steal a lot of competitions thunder shortly after CES 2011 or overshadow MWC in Feb? Antennagate related design changes in CDMA iPhone? We will have to wait and watch!
