Nokia has joined hands with Microsoft in a bid to counter the mighty smartphone market that is currently ruled by either iOS or Android on the touch side or the RIM’s Blackberry on enterprise side. Nokia would be adopting Windows Phone 7 as their primary platform and they are terming 2011 and 2012 as transition years. Both Microsoft and Nokia are struggling to get a share of the smartphone boom and the US market holds the most importance. A lot of Nokia tech and Microsoft will come together, like Ovi Maps and Bing search. Here is the press release section detailing the partnership:
The press release answers a lot of FAQ’s, partnership details and hints at the roadmap ahead. However what would this mean for MeeGo, Symbian and Nokia’s R&D work is yet to be fully realized. This is certainly one of the biggest news in the telecom market this year and we would wait to digest this.
Nokia and Microsoft coming close can perhaps disturb other manufactures working with Microsoft on WP7, but time will tell how it turns out.
