Intel has announced that it will be releasing a developer kit for Thunderbolt that will enhance the technology to other peripherals. At present, the Thunderbolt technology is available on the new Macbook Pros due to a collaboration between Intel and Apple at early stages. In fact, Apple notebooks are the first devices to get the thunderbolt port built into them.
Thunderbolt is a revolutionary I/O technology that supports the high resolution displays and exchange of data between two devices at a rate of 10GB/sec through a single, compact port. It even uses the same display port connector that previously used for connecting external monitors.
A report suggested that Intel is working with some of the partners to build an ecosystem around the interconnect. Lacie and Western Digital have already demonstrated portable device but not yet selling them in the market. Also, Canon has announced its future plan to release devices that support Thunderbolt, and products from AJA, BlackMagic, Matrox and Sonnet are being shown at the NAB trade show, which is going on in Las Vegas through April 14.
