Data released from flickr shows the most popular camera used to upload pictures is from Nikon D90. But within a fortnight the iPhone 4 is sure to overtake the D90. After the D90’s 2008 release it took three long years to attain the #1 spot. But the most shocking fact is that the iPhone 4 isn’t even a year older and has shown an excellent rise (As given in chart below) in the past few months and is now #2 in the Flickr charts.
Two years ago, the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi was overtaken by all the iPhones put together, i.e. the original iPhone, the iPhone 3G, and the iPhone 3GS.But now the iPhone 4 alone is en route to becoming the #1 camera on Flickr in less than an year. It’s the first time an iPhone has risen up the charts so quickly. To provide convenience and an easy life has been the motto of technology. The iPhone 4 comes with Flickr app which helps in easy upload of the pictures online and on the go.
The chart above shows the massive fall in Point & Shoot Cameras. One would still feel it could be popular due to its compact size; but it’s not at all the case. There is a severe downfall in its popularity and is about to get even worse. 2 Quarters ago, it may not have looked as bad, but now it’s very shocking.
Considering the high interests in photography of the users on flickr, they certainly prefer high end smart phones over point and shoots due to its equivalent photography features and easy uploading techniques. One thing’s for sure, should all the data of iPhones be clubbed; it is sure to be the most popular as of now and show its domination.
The next question will surely be will the iPhone 4 attain & retain #1 position for long especially with iPhone 5 on the horizon?
