Componenet suppliers from Asia seems to have indicated to an analyst that the upcoming iPhone 5th generation won’t be a great shift from what we have seen in the past. Its more like the iPhone 3G to 3Gs update. Apple is expected to retain the same design with impoved aneanna (remember antennagate?) and house a 8 Megapixel camera. Another obvious update rumored is the A5 chip from iPad 2 coming to the iPhone. This is pretty much what Apple did last year for its mobile processors. We would go ahead and rumor a A5 chip in the next Apple TV and iPod touch as well 🙂
Another interesting bit rumored is the inclusion of a Qualcomm chip in iPhone 5 that would bring the goodness of GSM+CDMA together on the same phone. This would mean the same model for Verizon and AT&T. It makes total sense for Apple to do this, but is the technologoly ready?
It isn’t unususal to see a ton of iPhone rumors come up at this time. Apple has been pushing a hardware update every year in june/july and since then everyone in the industry keep a watch on whats happening. Right from bookings of launch venues to component manufacturers in Asia, everything is scrutinzied, spied in an attempt to leak out the next big thing. For once the effforts succeeded with the iPhone 4 leaking out in full glory, but that was a slip from Apple. So if an analysy (no matter what track record) comes up with a claim, its hard to believe it. But we would believe that Apple would make major changes on the software end and the hardware with a A5 chip is powerful enough for this generation!
