Google recently unveiled its new social initiative, Google+. Also known as G+, Plus is visibly a major push by Google to fight back in the social space under the leadership of Larry Page. Google has an Andorid app for G+ and the iOS app has been submitted for approval to Apple already. Given Cupertinos animosity with Facebook, we don’t see any trouble for Google+ on iOS. But what interests us the most is the Picasa integration in Google+.
When we tested the Google+ Android app, we didn’t realise that the app automatically backs-up all pictures and images we shoot from the mobile to a private Picasa account. It is then available for us to use on Google+ whenever we want:
If you peek into the settings of Google+, you will find the configuration for the same. You have the option to either use WiFi + Cellular network or just WiFi. By default we found the cellular data network to be active, it would be wise to switch it to WiFi only if you are a heavy user.
In the two days when this accidentally worked for us, it became totally addictive and a great feature to have. This gives a hint of what iCloud would bring with syncing all your photos across multiple devices and the web. Google perhaps just stole Apple’s thunder. Million $ question: whill this feature be active on Google+ for iPhone?
Update: we are just informed that the iOS app won’t support auto-upload due to restrictions. guess then its iCloud only for now.
