In an earlier report on the iPhone in the US, we had told you how iPhones i.e. the iPhone 3GS & iPhone 4 had comprised almost half of the sales at two US carriers, AT&T and Verizon. Though the sales of the iPhone in the US were not as high as predicted by the analysts, it still managed to garner a sale of 4.7 million handsets which was near 50% share of the sales at AT&T and Verizon.
Now as per a recent report from the NPD group, the two iPhones have actually managed to outsell any other smartphone device in the US to become the top most selling device in the country. Effectively Apple’s iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS are the No.1 & No.2 top selling smartphones in the US.
Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G and Motorola DROID 3 occupy the 3rd and the 4th spot respectively. Interestingly Samsung which is considered to be one of the top competitors of Apple in the US market only managed to garner the 5th spot, that too with the lesser known Intensity II.
The data included only the consumers aged 18 and above, and it did not include the stats of corporate mobile purchases. With the entry of the iPhone 4S in the market and the kind of reception it received, the stats for the fourth quarter seem to be further skewing in Apple’s favor. All said, we will eagerly await the results of the fourth quarter.
