The success of iOS is clear from the huge number of Apps on Appstore, the fact that Apple is counting down to 25th billion app download, and from the stellar performance of Apple last quarter. To give an even clearer picture Apple sold more iOS devices(156 million) in 2011 than Macs ever sold(122 million) in 28 years, as noted by Horace Dediu of Asymco.
The iOS platform as a whole reached 316 million cumulative units at the end of the last year. It overtook Mac OS X in under four years. With the release of Mountain Lion, Apple has almost ported the whole of the mobile OS into the Mac OS X, which in turn can drive the sales of Mac OS X in coming years. Due to the fact that those people who have used iOS devices may find it handy to use Mac OS X as well.
So do you think iDevices are going to make Macs and PC obsolete in the coming future? Let us know your views in the comments section.
