iPad Rules The Tablet Market With A Lions Share

Apple iPad has posted a record breaking statistic yet again. The dominating iPad sales attributed to 65% of overall tablet sales of Q1 2012. The first quarter of 2012 witnessed sale of 18.2 million tablet devices out of which iPads accounted to 11.8 million which is almost 10 times more than it’s nearest competitor Samsung which managed to push only 1.1 million tablet devices.

ABI Research has given out the details of tablet device sales for the first quarter of 2012. The only companies which posted increased sales compared to previous quarter were Apple, Samsung, RIM and Lenovo. Though Apple undoubtedly captured a lions share the second spot has been captured by Samsung dethroning Amazon. The kindle fire which was launched with much hype and great holiday quarter sales eventually fizzled out.

Samsung being second is still far away from coming close to Apple in tablet segment. But just as in smartphone market the top two spots are occupied by the same companies yet again. The Android tablet market is being purely driven by the hardware features of the tablet as the software support is still bleak. Not many applications are available on Google Play making the usability of Android tablets far lesser than that of iPads.

Apple’s new pricing strategy could boost the tablet sales but it took a hit compared to Q4 2011 which had some great holiday season sales. Apple could sell 185% more tablets compared to Q1 2011 but 33% lesser tablets compared to Q4 2011. But Apple recently got all approvals to launch iPad in China which might prove to boost their sales by a great number.
