Microsoft might be go hung about the future of the PC now that its next generation operating System meant for tablets and PC’s both arrived two days ago. However, Mark Moskowitz, an analyst at JP Morgan thinks otherwise. In an investors note issued earlier in the day, the analyst said; “In our view, the iPad Mini stands to target price-sensitive users and the e-reader crowd. Given the global economic uncertainty, we think price-sensitive users could gravitate toward an iPad Mini instead of making a PC purchase.”
The analyst took typical note of the current grim economic scenario and opined that in such times, consumers often opt for “feel good” purchases and the iPad Mini amongst other similarly sized tablets prima facie seems to be a perfect device for users looking forward to such a purchase. Moskowitz also said that cosumers are likely to refresh their handheld devices two or three times during the average lifespan of a PC – which currently hovers between 5 to seven years.
This research note was delivered before the release of the iPad Mini and its official pricing came out. It predicted a price tag of $249 for the entry level ipad Mini model. They were howeve way off the mark as the official price of the entry level model turned out to be well over the $300 mark.
the analysts were also of the opinion that the iPad Mini could eat in to the sales of the higher priced iPad. It would be interesting to see if that eventually happens as there is only marginal difference in procing between the smaller and larger tablets.
