The day has finally dawned! A little over a month and half after the much awaited 6th edition of the iPhone was announced at an event in the U.S and subsequently launched there, the phone has made its official appearance in India. Starting today, November 2 2012, the much awaited iPhone 5 would go on sale across the country. Distributors across major cities are holding events in public places to welcome the official arrival of the Jesus phone in the country.
In Mumbai, events are being held at Phoenix Mills, Lower Parel as well as InOrbit Mall, Malad where the phone would be showcased officially to costumers. In the capital Delhi, an event is scheduled at DLF Place, Saket. Apart from this, online stores would also start selling the iPhone 5 starting today with various discount options for users. In India, Aircel and Airtel would both the offering the iPhone 5 starting today. However, the phone would also be on sale across the country with apple appointing Redington and Ingram Micro for distributing the device across India.
As for the official pricing, although we had revealed it earlier, here it is again. The entry level 16 GB version of the phone will cost you Rs. 45,500 while the 32 GB variant will be priced at Rs. 52,500. The top of the line 64 GB varaint will set you back by a cool Rs. 59,500.
This makes the iPhone 5 significantly more expensive compared to competition. The Samsung Galaxy S III for example costs “just” 33,000 for the 16 GB variant. Even the top of the line 32 GB variant costs 37,000 – significantly less than the entry level iPhone 5.
The iPhone 5 had also went on preorder sale across India a few days ago. If you happen to be amongst the few who preordered the devices, your devices should be shipped to you starting today.
