iOS Developers Report of Diagonal Swiping Issues With iPhone 5

It is not very usual of iPhone users (and developers) to report major issues with the device –  thanks to the high standards of quality that they are known for. When such issues do however occur, the issue usually hogs the tech headlines for days. On previous occasions we have had the “Antenna-gate” issue with the iPhone 4 and more recently, the iOS 6 maps controversy with the iOS 6 release.  And if we are to believe fresh reports brewing in, another  such issue might be on the horizon.

The latest issue seem to be one with diagonal swiping on the iPhone 5 display. The issue might not be noticeable during normal usage of the phone and only seems to appear when you start swiping the screen rapidly. The issue might cause the screen to lag when playing a game like Fruit Ninja – which requires the user to swipe rapidly across the screen in rapid succession.

Folks from over at Recombu have posted a video of the issue being recreated on two iPhone 5’s. They also tried to recreate the issue with two iPhone 4S’ side by side – both running iOS 6 and were unable to do so on the older phones. It is unclear as to what is causing this issue with people divided on whether it is a hardware or software issue.

However, considering the fact that the issue is not observed on the iPhone 4S with iOS 6, the suspect is certainly a hardware glitch which Apple might find difficult to solve.

Apple is yet to issue a statement clarifying their stand on this issue and it remains to be seen what their stand would be.
