Strange as it may seem, the iPhone 5, which has been around for quite some time now has not yet been made available officially in Taiwan. This in spite of the fact that Taiwan is an advanced market where most new products end up without much delay. Anyway, if you happen to be an Apple fan from the tiny island country awaiting the new iPhone, here’s some good news coming your way.
The country’s Central News Agency is reporting that various carriers in the country are in talks with Apple to bring the iPhone to Taiwan starting December 14.
The CNA report says:
Taiwan’s major telecom carriers confirmed media reports Monday that Apple Inc.’s latest iPhone 5 is “very likely” to hit the local market on Dec. 14, more than two and a half months after it rolled out in 31 other countries.
The three companies — Chunghwa Telecom, Far Eastone Telecommunications, and Taiwan Mobile — plan to take pre-orders one week before the release day.
Taiwan has been traditionally a very good market for the iPhone. Last year, the country had preordered 400,000 iPhone 4S’ soon after its launch. The product went on to sell in very good numbers as well. The iPhone 5 is expected to get a similar response as well – albeit it would be interesting to see if people would flock towards it given the criticism it had received especially when it came to the new iOS 6 Maps.
