A new patent awarded to Apple on Tuesday can boost Apple Maps way further with new Interactive Augmented Reality technology that will help users share and access maps data in a much more effective and interactive manner. Compared to existing Augmented Reality applications the patent filed by Apple takes it a step ahead and plots real time AR screens that user can interact with various annotations and screen sharing options.
The patent awarded by USPTO explains various use cases of the patents including the way a doctor can utilise it for a simple medical diagnosis of a patient and studying and detecting various components of a simple circuit board.
Apple maps, which at launch was trashed in reviews citing many inaccuracies has been evolving rapidly since then. In the new patent that explains a certain example of a downtown image with sky scrappers and various buildings, the image of the maps in 2D will be rendered automatically and shown in a split screen with a 3D interactive AR session. A user can then use annotations to mark a route with pins and dotted lines from point A to point B which can be shared with other users.
Such technology makes it easier to spot users or share location data for users, once the data is shared with a user both users will be free to change and edit it depending on the convenience. The patent claims that the device running the AR system will be capable of sharing the live feed as well as the processed AR feed using wireless networks to other devices.
