In the ongoing case going on since last year against Apple for breaching user privacy by collecting location data, the US Magistrate Judge Paul S. Grewal said that Apple could face severe penalties for unfair submission of documents since the beginning of the case. On March 6th, the Judge ordered Apple to furnish each and every relevant document, efforts taken to gather the documents, related search keys used to find the emails etc. Since then Apple seems to have gathered and submitted more than 2000 extra documents that might be helpful in giving the final decision in the case. The incomplete efforts from Apple seems to be swinging the decision against them.
Apple’s representative Judge Beringer said that Apple has been making huge efforts to gather all the required documents in this case over the past two weeks and Apple has now furnished the entire set of documents related to the case.
Apple is accused by the plaintiff of tracking user location data even when the user specifically opted out of it. And Apple seems to have shared the location data with third party services for various service improvements which is a serious breach of privacy and concern. If Apple is proved to have broken the law it may face some severe penalties.
