Apple acquire an indoor navigator company, WifiSLAM, which is a silicon valley based 2 year old startup that specialises in detecting a user’s location indoors using wifi signals around. Interesting all the information about the company has been taken down once the news about the takeover spread online, neither their website nor their youtube demo videos are accessible right now. We could gather some interesting information about the startup from their AngelList listing. Most of their backing seems to have happen from founders from Stanford and a Google Employee. Apple might be exploring opportunities to extend Apple Maps to indoors and rival Google or Apple might be having more bigger plans for this system.
Either ways, with the huge number of improvements happening to Apple Maps iOS 7.0 seems to have some promising content in terms of mapping from Apple.
