An usual scenario after going to the Twitter app is that we are on the middle of the Twitter timeline or at the bottom of it because we have a lot of unread tweets. And instead of reading each of them carefully we decide to just scroll to the top by skimming through most of them. Same goes while surfing it through the website, too. For a user this may result in missing tweets from concerned people, missing out the important happenings, etc.
Twitter has found a solution for the same. In a recent announcement, Twitter has said that it is going to roll out a feature named ‘While you were away’ to boost user engagement. The feature will help you provide tweets which Twitter thinks are relevant to you the most. It is not yet certain on how Twitter will decide it but it can be presumed on the basis of whom you follow, engage with frequently, etc. It will then accordingly gather the highlights of what you missed and show it on top when you log back in or come back to the app.
The update is more of like Facebook’s ‘Top Stories’ where Facebook shows you posts of your friends which are receiving engagement. Similarly, Twitter may do this with the ‘While you were away’ feature by putting up tweets with the most ReTweets and favorites.
The announcement was initially done in the month of November but it has to started to roll out to some of its users. We haven’t received the update yet but we are eager to try it out. Another feature which Twitter focuses to improve is an improvised messaging experience i.e discussing Tweets privately and an instant personalized timeline for its users.
