Apple's New Patent: Wireless Action Camera Claims To Be Better Than GoPro

Apple has bagged a new patent by the USPTO for a remote digital camera with a remote control. The technology is based on the IP it acquired from Kodak which details a camera system which can be controlled by a smart watch. In this case, it could be referring to the Apple Watch. Apple’s Patent aims to rectify the flaws in the design of the already available portable cameras like the competitors Go Pro HD Hero2 camera.
The patent mentions that the GoPro HD Hero2 camera includes only a single image capturing system, which captures images using an optical axis directed from the front of the camera.

This can lead to excessive wind resistance and it presents a high profile that is more susceptible to damage and the image, too may suffer due to the vibrations caused by it in some situations. The Apple patent will improvise on these flaws along with providing users a wrist-mounted control device that communicates wirelessly with the camera and will provide it with updated information in real-time, also a low-power mode for conserving battery.
The patent also represents a system with multiple camera sensors to cover multiple angles in multiple directions. The camera includes multiple threaded mounting points which can be used with tripods and can be mounted in number of configuration on different devices like cars, handlebars, jibs, etc.
After this announcement, Go Pro’s shares dropped by more than 12% but let us not hype since we all know Apple patents a lot of technology all the time but only a fraction of it is ever developed.
