Xiaomi had created a lot of hype around the “i is coming” event that they were hosting in Delhi. Yesterday we finally got to see what the event was about. The company unveiled its latest smartphone, a toned down version of their flagship. The new device shares its name with the Mi 4, being named as Mi 4i which you can buy at Rs. 12,999.
In terms of specifications, here is what you get. The phone has a 5 inch full HD display which gives a great pixel density of 441 PPI. It is packed with 2GB of RAM and runs on a 2nd Gen Snapdragon 615 processor. The rear camera has a 13 Megapixel sensor while the front camera has a 5 Megapixel one. The phone also boasts of a powerful 3120 mAh battery. Xiaomi ships the phone with Android 5.0 (Lollipop) with MIUI 6 running on top of it.
The device is also available in yellow, blue and pink colors apart from the standard white and black ones. This a lot similar to the iPhone 5c where Apple brought out an altered version of their flagship and priced it lower. Registrations for the sale on 30th April have already started on Flipkart and the device will also sell on other e-commerce sites in the future.
If you compare the phone to the similarly priced Moto G 2nd Gen, it beats it in almost every way. In fact besides the YU Yureka, no phone under Rs. 20000 runs on a Snapdragon 615 chip. Infact the Samsung A7 which sports the first gen Snapdragon 615 is priced around Rs. 28,000. Now with the launch of this device, the under Rs. 15000 market has just got very exciting again. Lenovo who is one of Xiaomi’s biggest competitors doesn’t have a phone that could take on the Mi 4i. Their A7000 maybe cheaper but doesn’t match the Mi 4i’s specs. We are quite certain the Mi 4i will be another success for Xiaomi, but what’s interesting is to see how other companies try and take on this device.
