Apple has been planning to double the iPhone sales in India in each of the next three years to achieve fresh targets set by the company’s US headquarter. The new targets are set to counter attack the ongoing competition raised by Samsung in the smartphone market and claim its initial position in the smartphone market.
Recently the company has signed a distribution deal with a Delhi based group. Optiemus group will be Apple’s fifth iPhone distributor in India, and more plans are being made to increase the expansion furthermore. Apple already has 4 distributors in India, namely, Redington, Ingram Micro, Rashi Peripherals and Brightstar.
Apparently, Optiemus Group is also a distributor of Samsung and HTC smartphones. Optiemus has been given the charge to expand the distribution of iPhones in neighbourhood cellphone stores. An industry executive commented that shipment figures are one of the indicators of success in the smartphone industry, any new distributor Apple appoints will lead to an instant surge in shipments, which will help it to achieve the target fixed by headquarters and will also lead to a significant jump in retail reach.
Apple is targeting for sales of two million iPhones in India in this by October-September, the company was successful in achieving their one million sales last year. By April 30th, the company has sold a million iPhones in India. Apple India had been under pressure and wants to ensure that volume sales grow at twice the existing pace as Samsung is posing as a huge competitor for Indian market.
Apple is trying every possible trick to reach the target, the distributors are now reaching out to even local consumer electronic dealers and mobile phone stores for stocking iPhones and setting up dedicated space in such stores.
The iPhone’s lacking performance in India is partly due to the high cost of the device but also because of its rare presence in small shops.
