The world’s top contract PC manufacturer, Taiwan’s Quanta Computer Inc is considering about setting up a manufacturing base in India. Quanta makes laptops and assembles watches for Apple Inc.
After the company’s annual investor conference, CC Leung the Vice Chairman of Quanta said they are gathering materials for evaluation and are looking into it.
Fascinating fact is that few months back, Foxconn decided to establish many plants in India. Following Foxconn’s footsteps Quanta has decided the same move. Government officials have said Foxconn is in talks with main client Apple on the potential investments.
At present, China is the only hub for Quanta’s manufacturing facilities. Currently, the company has no specific investment plans but infinite possibilities do await. Innumerable things will be considered when evaluating India’s suitability for manufacturing, he added.
Quanta also manufactures laptops for Hewlett-Packard Co. and is the main assembler for the recently-released Apple Watch.
The company is positive that it’s PC shipment volume and revenue contribution from PCs should remain about the same this year as last year. A 6.2% drop in industry-wide shipments is predicted by market watchers International Data Corp. Quanta is confident that this will not hinder their stats.
‘Make in India’ has been Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious program. The program aims to reboot manufacturing to boost growth and employment. However, we are still far behind rival China especially in the field of technology. Due to this China still has upper hand which attracts most factories to set up their assembly units in that company.
The rivalry among the different manufacturing companies is in a way, a good thing for Indian market. Rising competition among the companies results in a race to expand the user base. The best way to win is by setting up manufacturing units in India. The present scenario is a win win situation for Indian consumers and companies as well.
