Rumors of an LTE iPhone coming up to take things to the next level in the smartphone race was out sometime back. While there weren’t many takers for this possibility, we can more or less official close the case with Apple posting a job position for an cellular technology software manager who has expert knowledge of WCDMA/UMTS, HSPA, HSPA+, LTE etc.
Given that major carriers are yet to fully handle the 3G loads and 4G wouldn’t go mainstream for a year or two more, Apple certainly sees some value in investing time for developing products for future networks, instead of trying to innovate with super specs on the iPhone. So for all those looking for blazing 4G speed on the iPhone – the option is Overdrive from Sprint!
The Cellular Technology Manager will manage the cellular protocol software team, responsible for the design, implementation and integration of layer 1-3 protocols for iPhone. The position will be responsible for ensuring appropriate cellular technology development and execution, KPI performances and interoperability of cellular technology on various platforms, R&D of new protocol and standards, as well as working with cross-functional teams to deliver the best customer experience on Cellular.
