Now, You Can Run Siri on Android!

Yes you read that right! Though, it’s not official as this was done by a group of developers from Applidium, who managed to hack Siri’s security protocol. The group claims that Apple’s virtual personal assistant can be run on any device and all you need to accomplish the task is an iPhone 4S identifier and a bit of coding knowledge.

As per Applidium, Siri uses TCP to communicate with the Apple server at 17.174.4.4 using port 443. Using the server address on a desktop, Applidium found that the server was returning the domain name “guzzoni.apple.com” and that Siri was using HTTPS protocol.

Siri hacked by Applidium

They then rerouted Siri’s communication to a fake address instead of the Apple servers and upon analysis found that Siri sends Apple a time stamp of every word spoken. Interestingly Siri also generates a confidence score for every word translation. It was also discovered that Siri sends audio data to the Apple servers, compressed using Speex codec, which is used in VOIP applications.

In case, you are interested and more importantly are technically sound enough to understand and make use of all the technical details to hack Siri, you can visit Applidium Blog. We wouldn’t exactly recommend you to go ahead and explore Applidium’s adventures as Apple can easily track Siri interaction with the help of the UID, and if they find the same UID being used from different IP addresses they would surely blacklist the same.

Siri, introduced with the iPhone 4S has proven to be one of the most important feature on the device. At the same its so intriguing to the developer community that they are working hard to get it ported on the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2.
