Among the many facts, figures and dreams of Steve Jobs that have been steadily cropping up after Job’ death in October 2011, something interesting has come up once again. And this time apparently, Jobs wanted to launch a car under the banner of Apple before he died.
CEO and Founder of J. Crew, and current Apple board member Mickey Drexler revealed in an interview in the Fast Company’s Innovation Uncensored Conference this week, that one of the Apple founder’s dreams was to roll out an innovative iCar. “Steve’s dream before he died was to design an iCar and I think it would’ve been probably 50% of the market. He never did design it,” said Drexler.
This does not come as a surprise, after it was also rumoured that Apple is working on a prototype of an Apple TV created by Jobs, and coming up with a HDTV soon. Walter Isaacson, author of biography Steve Jobs, mentioned in his book which strengthens iTV rumours even more. It is rumoured that Foxconn and Sharp will be working on the manufacturing of these television sets. Also, Jobs left behind some unfinished work on the design of a super yacht which he was designing on his own with some help from French designer Philippe Starck, which is now handled by Jobs’ wife Laurene Powell. Interesting!
If the idea of an iCar materialises, looks like it will give tough competition to all the lean mean machines out there, including the new Google driverless car which has been a sensation of late. Now that Steve Jobs has left us, do you think that Apple will be adventurous enough to hold the reins of this plan and release the iCar, just as Jobs had envisioned it?
