Nokia files complaint against Apple with ITC, alleges mega patent infringement

Nokia is in all attempts to make the new year bitter for Apple with another patent complaint, this time to the US ITC (International Trade Commission). Just weeks back Nokia had filed a lawsuit against Apple claiming that all the iPhones released till date infringes on 10 Nokia patents. Apple later responded by counter-suing Nokia, alleging infringement of 13 Apple patents.

The interesting bit here is that this particular complaint by Nokia isn’t about the iPhone, but almost ALL Apple products. This would include iPhone, iPods & Macs. According to Nokia its seven patents w.r.t user interface, digital cameras, antennas, and power management have been violated by Apple in designing its products.

In what appears to be a lengthy court battle for years to come, we aren’t very sure how this latest ITC complaint by Nokia adds up, but it is believed that if the ITC decides in Nokia’s favor – Apple would be banned from selling the products with disputed technology. Both companies are believed to have patents that are capable of being an industry standard and as other players like Motorola and Palm step into the smartphone sphere with their nextgen devices, chances are bright that we would see a lot more of these patent lawsuits!
