Apple buying all AMOLED from Samsung? No!

Rumors of Apple going the AMOLED way isn’t new. Before the iPhone 4 was revealed earlier this year, there were several rumors of Apple going with Samsungs AMOLED displays on its handhelds. Given that Apple is the biggest consumer of Flash memory that Samsung makes, the two cos sure share a relationship. However when it comes to AMOLED the good reason for Apple ditching the same in 2010 releases was said to be supply constraints, which we have already seen with HTC (who had to shift to LCDs due to low supply of AMOLED).

Now the rumors claim that Apple is booking all the AMOLED supply from Samsung in 2011 for its future releases. While Apple is surely capable of consuming large amounts of AMOLED panels, Samsung wouldn’t like to jeopardize its own supply of smartphones that use the AMOLED panels. At the same time the rumors isn’t going down my throat for a simple reason, Apple was hell bent on the fact that Retina is a better technology and consumes lesser battery. Given the long term deal with LG for display panels that Apple has, why would they shift to Retina display?

One possible logic is the iPads for which Retina might be proving expensive or unviable (in supply terms). However my bet still remains otherwise!
