iPhone Dev Team is out with the Jailbreak for iPhone 2.2 and also unlock for 1st Gen iPhone running firmware 2.2. So Cydia and Installer makes it to iPhone 2.2! But read the iPhone Dev team warnings to be on the safer side, if you plan to unlock the iPhone 3G anytime soon!
V 2.2 FAQs:
- Will I be able to Unlock my iPhone 3G? – Though its possible to Jailbreak your iPhone 3G running v2.2; it will be advised to use the PwnageTool (available only for Mac at the moment) instead of QuickPwn if you want to software unlock it in the near future. (This means do not use iTunes to update to 2.2).
- I don’t want to unlock the iPhone 3G: If you are using your iPhone with one carrier and have no interest in the possibility of an iPhone 3G unlock in the near future then just restore or upgrade to 2.2 using iTunes and use QuickPwn to Jailbreak and add Cydia and Installer.
- Wass the mess with MacBooks? The ‘late 2008’ MacBook/air/pro line of computers have an issue with DFU mode. While it’s possible to go from Pwned 2.1 -> Pwned 2.2 (using PwnageTool), you can’t yet go from stock to pwned. If in any doubt use a different machine.

- Launch iTunes and restore to V2.2. You can press Shift+Restore and select the V2.2 firmware you downloaded
- After your updated to V2.2 using iTunes, launch QuickPwn 2.2 and select the 2.2 firmware you downloaded. Follow the on-screen instructions and Sweet!
