Apple gearing up for multi-core iPhone, beginning firmware 3.0

Its been a while since iPhone 2.2 was released. And Apple’s rumor Macworld revelation that iPhone’s next firmware upgrade 3.0 would support multicore processors. This certainly comes with the vision that the iPhone platform would in the future be a ultimate gaming platform competing with the PSP and other handhelds.

iPhone has already spiced up competition amongst mobile handsets with a revolutionary hardware and software combination. And here we get an unusually strong hint about the next iPhone. For the first time, I feel that the iPhone Nano is actually NOT COMING. And it would be something more like the iPhone Pro that we have already imagined (and even asked Apple for it as a New Year gift).

While others like the PALM PRE and the N97 have convincingly countered the iPhone in terms of features. It seems iPhone is all set to drop a bomb (mega update) in the second half of 2009.
