Altebits, the creator of Tweetie, has been acquired by Twitter. Tweetie is the most popular twitter app for the iPhone. The official twitter blog broke the news of acquisition, saying that the Tweetie ($2.99) would be relaunched as twitter’s official iPhone app. The app would be available for free after the relaunch in the coming weeks. Altebits author Loren Brichte would be joining the twitter team and would work on Tweetie for iPad. Twitter may also release the Tweetie app for other mobile platforms like Android.
