If Digitimes analyst is to be believed, Apple has another iPhone 4G model that was in works since 2008 and which retains the iPhone 3G / 3GS type looks. Code named ‘N91’ this iPhone 4G in question that hasn’t leaked out to us yet, was said to be developed to compensate for any major roadblock faced with the iPhone 4G design that we have seen leaking out.
On a side note, Apple initiated the iPhone 4G project at the end of 2008. According to our sources, Apple actually has another product codenamed N91 for the project, which offers less change from previous iPhones compared with the N90. It’s a parallel product to back up the N90 in case there are major delays due to significant modifications in casing, display resolution, digital camera support and so forth.
So there is a good enough possibility that Apple might go ahead and launch an iPhone HD / 4G that we have never seen before and surprise the entire world who are pretty much expecting the thing we saw. Well atleast myself would be happy that I won’t have to eat my words on the iPhone 4G leak 😛
The interview also mentions that in the iPhone 4th gen Apple would go with the A4 chip that we saw in the iPad. It seems that Samsung played a major role in the development of the A4 chip and Samsungs Cortex A9 multi-core processor would be ready by year end only, thus putting it out of scope for the iPhone OS 4.0 to handle, perhaps the OS 5.0 and iPhone 5th gen would feature this?
