Google Chrome OS Based Smartbooks Coming In November

It’s been some time since we last heard of Google’s Chrome OS – Google’s own light weight netbook/tablet OS. Folks over at Digitimes has in a fresh report said that vendors are preparing to launch the first of the new generation smartbooks running the Google Chrome OS starting this very month. In more interesting news, Google seems to be in no mood to give up manufacturing its own reference devices. Reportedly, the company is planning a Chrome OS based smartbook on the lines of the Nexus One that the company would sell on its own.

The Google Chrome smartbook will feature an ARM-based processor and would be manufactured for Google by Inventec. This notebook would not be sold through retail channels as well. Google is likely to make only 60,000-70,000 units of this one – againd confirming its intentions as being a reference device of sorts.

Soon after the Google Notebook, others like HP and Acer would come up with their own Chrome OS based products by December.
