Almost a year ago, Apple launched iPad tablet last year in January 2010. Now there’s a speculation about Apple launching iPad in India on January 28. Allow me to point out that Apple hasn’t made the first generation iPad tablet available in several countries that also includes India. Apple is on the verge of launching brand new second generation iPad and now rumors about first generation iPad to arrive India will hardly get any geeks and potential consumers interested.
Apple is expected to release the second generation iPad 2 loaded with several new features in coming two months. But this piece of information seems like Apple is dumping the residual iPads or a separate stock of the tablet as a favor to the countries who haven’t got it officially. While rest of the world seems to be enjoying the iPhone 4, there’s no sight of the same in several countries. Apple product admirers/followers/loyalists in such countries rely on gray market channels to get the latest Apple gadget.
Apple is said to stop production of iPad by the end of this month and will give a green signal for manufacturing of iPad 2. Once the iPad production ends and by the time iPad 2 launches, Apple is expected to keep 2-3 million iPad units in the distribution channels.
It’s quite difficult choice to make and it’s all matter of personal choice. The ones who’ve waited can certainly go ahead to buy the Apple iPad.
For India, Apple will offer iPad in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB Wi-Fi model at a price ranging from Rs. 26,000 to Rs. 37,000. While the Wi-Fi+3G version would cost between Rs. 33,000 and Rs. 44,000. Question remains about the microSIM. Will Indian mobile operators offer microSIM or consumers will have to chop the regular SIM modules themselves? If the former happens then the country can certainly hope for the launch of iPhone 4. Till then, it’s a long wait.
