iSuppli has reported that Apple iPad 2 supply could be affected due to the disaster in Japan. Major parts (not all) are supplied from the country which is currently suffering from difficult time due to the massive earthquake in the beginning and Tsunami later. The components which are used in the iPad 2 that comes straight from the Japan manufactures areĀ a hard-to-replace electronic compass, the battery and possibly the advanced technology glass in the display, IHS iSuppli research indicates.
The IHS iSuppli teardown analysis of the iPad 2 so far has been able to identify five parts sourced from Japanese suppliers:
? NAND flash from Toshiba Corp.
? Dynamic random access memory (DRAM) made by Elpida Memory Inc.
? Electronic compass from AKM Semiconductor
? The touch screen overlay glass likely from Asahi Glass Co
? The system battery from Apple Japan Inc.
However, there could be some other parts too but not all can be estimated as Apple keeps the information private about their suppliers. iSuppli reports that some of the suppliers told that the facilities are still undamaged. However, it will affect to some degrees by logistic issues plaguing most Japanese industries in the quake zone.
India is already in issues of getting the iDevices later than expected. We got iPad in January, that is, after the completion of 1 year of the release. Lets see what plans has Apple in mind to overcome these shortages. We hope that iPad 2 will hit the indian stores very soon.
