Review: Iris For Android, Reverse Of Siri

Where many people in the world are still trying to get their first hand on with Siri, folks at Dexetras have come up with an application on Android. Due to the fact that this application looks and works in the same way as that of Siri, they called it ‘Iris’ which is exactly the reverse of Siri. Currently, Iris is still in alpha stage and constantly updated to include all the desired features of iPhone 4S assistance in the future. The application has been released in the Android market for all users.

When we first downloaded the application, we didn’t expect much from Iris. But things turned out to be other way round. It worked in most of the cases. However, you can never expect it to perform like Siri. Though it does most of the tasks. In the recent version, the functionality has been extended and improved. If you ask Iris ‘who are you’, it will answer ‘I was created by Dexetra, a young flegdling technology company based out of India”. It even opens up other applications when ask for your current location.

We felt that Iris never answer most of personal questions. For almost everything, it searches the internet due to which the actual phone assistance experience might fade away. When i asked Iris ‘Do you love me’, it searches the internet and reverted back to me with a reply ‘Do you love me is the 1981 dance/soul single by Patti Austin’. Sometimes, it may piss you off. On the flip side, we can’t blame it all because it is an alpha version and still in development with new features coming soon.

In the early version, it used an icon of a mic with a girl in the background. Now, it uses a blue dot to dictate the sentences with black background and ice cream sandwich support. Anyways, it is a great attempt to get a phone assistance for Android devices. Let’s know what do you think about it. Download from here
