Apple has flatly denied rumors suggesting that its iPhone 4S’s most coveted feature, i.e. voice activated Siri is anti-abortion.
The rumors gained prominence after certain sections of the media reported that Siri failed to locate nearby abortion clinics and instead dished out pregnancy advice centers as an alternative.
Natalie Kerris a spokeswoman for Apple stated that Apple doesn’t have an anti-abortion stance and stated that the inability of Siri to locate the abortion centers is possible as the voice activated assistant is in its beta stage and is constantly improving with time. And also promised that this won’t be the case once the final version is out.
Though blogger and rights group around the world are not convinced. Nancy Keenan of NARAL Pro-Choice America Foundation added that Siri is a great tool and is a technology of the future and as a personal assistant it would be very disappointing if Siri won’t be able to provide vital information like info related to abortion care and contraception in this case.
Interestingly, one can point out that Steve Jobs was born out of wedlock when his mother went against abortion and gave birth to Steve. Though, it would definitely be too farfetched to suggest that Jobs or Apple had created Siri with an anti-abortion stance.
