Apple Might Use A5X Chip in iPad 3 Prototype Last Year [Photos]

As you might be already aware of the fact that Apple come up with several prototypes before the company finalize a design. Some photos of the iPad 3 prototype have appeared which features a chip called ‘A5X’, according to a report from Macrumors. Since the release of iPad where Apple unveiled their own ‘A4’ chip, things have always gone down in the same order.

The iPad 2 had an A5 chip followed by iPhone 4S. And now the possibilities of a quad core processor in an iPad 3 seems imminent which would ultimately be called ‘A6’. If these photos are to be believed, the iPad 3 could also feature a chip named ‘A5X’ where X could denote even faster processor. Anyhow, there are some code names which confirms its existence as an iPad 3 prototype only.

When iPad was released, the chip was codenamed ‘S5L8930X. Perhaps, when iPad 2 came out, the nomenclature changed to S5L8940X. The report suggests that the A5X is called ‘S5L8945X’. Did you see the leap of 10 units from iPad 1 to iPad 2 and suddenly the digits have jumped to only 5 units in iPad 3?  This evidence compel us to think that it should be the prototype of an iPad 3 which Apple tested last year.

iPad 3 is expected to have a quad core processor, retina display and an LTE capability. Needless to say, we have to wait for March for things to be more clear. Are you excited about iPad 3? Let’s know in the comment section. We would like to hear from you.
