Google To Pay $22.5 Million To FTC

The recent fiasco involving Google’s technique to bypass restrictions on iOS devices and track user data went viral on the internet. In May this year FTC has ruled that it will be imposing a heavy fine on Google for following unethical standards. Well, FTC has imposed the heaviest fine ever with a huge $22.5 Million that Google has to shell out.

Google has almost sealed settlement terms claimed few official sources. Google has been charged by FTC for tricking Safari browser on iOS devices to accept cookies which track activities even when user switches off saving cookies. When a user interacted with an ad the ad automatically places a cookie without user’s permission. The ad would send invisible forms to make it appear as if the user has been interacting with the advertisement and thus install the cookie.

Last October Google signed a 20 year agreement with FTC to not misrepresent its privacy practices to consumers. But Google was caught breaking the agreement. FTC has imposed fine at a rate of $16000 per violation per day according to close sources which adds up to @22.5 Million in total.
