It is sounding more bad news for BlackBerry and its latest operating system BB10 as electronista spots out that the US Department of Defence is opting out of BlackBerry and going in for iOS devices and that too with a huge requirement of 650,000 devices! A recent news confirmed that due to some budget constraints as the US government cut down $80 billion usage for IT, the DoD has opted out of testing BlackBerry’s new BB10 platform but one piece of good news for Apple is that the DoD has almost completed testing out iOS and Android as a viable replacement for aging out BlackBerry platforms. Electronista stated that most of the devices will be heading into battlefield to support commandos and other battle operations and the remaining will be used inside of the Pentagon for various official usage.
A breakdown of the device requirement shows that DoD is more keen on acquiring iPads and iPod touches than iPhones. The order includes 120,000 iPads, 100,000 iPad minis and 200,000 iPod touches apart from 210,000 of iPhones. The use case of each category of products is still a secret though. All these devices are set to replace the 470,000 older model and legacy BlackBerry devices which are being used right now. A different source claims that DoD is more keen on replacing all the BlackBerry devices which are currently not compatible with the new BB10 OS but there are no confirmed news regarding the same.
