Apple has been rapidly going ahead with construction of its data centers in multiple locations across the US. After finishing its massive data center in Maiden, Prineville and in Oregon Apple seems to have finished the first phase of its data center in Reno, Nevada which is approximately a 20000 square foot room with 4 huge ventilation fans. The data center is built in a massive 365 acre land which has plans for more building and infrastructure that is currently under planning but Apple seems to have got its data center ready in just an year and requesting permission to start off with the current data center before other parts of the whole campus goes live.
In an AppleInsider exclusive, they state that the data center looks quite similar to the one at Maiden with a large room accompanied by a chilling tower beside it to cool the data center. Though the whole place isn’t completed yet it has enough security in place with black lamp posts and CCTV cameras with fencing all around the data center.
The place is well located with only a few feet away from the highway but as of now the whole facility looks like plain barren land as the built up area is currently obstructed by hills nearby. Apple seems to have kicked off few data centers in the past 3 years to scale up its services along with iCloud which currently is the leading cloud service in the US and would require huge amount of reliable cloud support. The Reno data center might currently only be a test facility that will open up to full fledge operations later this year or in 2014.
