Cupertino based tech giant Apple has launched its 2020 edition of iPad Pro and MacBook Air. The former comes with significant upgrades compared to its predecessor. On the other hand, the new MacBook arrives with performance improvements and other updated features. Let’s find out what the two devices offer out of the box:
iPad Pro 2020 Specifications & Pricing:
The 2020 iPad Pro is offered in 11 and 12.9-inch screen sizes. The latest offering features an edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display, P3 wide colour support and ProMotion technology that automatically adjusts refresh rate up to 120Hz. The 2020 iPad Pro indeed comes with triple rear camera setup as per the leaked renders last December. Design-wise, it is similar to the iPhone 11 Pro. However, the module comprises of a 12MP wide camera, a 10MP ultra-wide lens and a LiDAR scanner. The latter is said to offer enhanced depth sensing and AR capabilities.
The new iPad Pro is powered by the latest A12Z Bionic octa-core processor. Apple claims that the tablet is more powerful than most Windows PC and laptops and is designed for demanding tasks like 4K video editing. Apple hasn’t revealed the RAM capacity of the 2020 iPad Pro. Depending on users needs, the tablet is offered in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage options. The brand hasn’t revealed the battery capacity either but the device is claimed to deliver 10 hours of usage on WiFi and 9 hours on cellular network.
The 2020 iPad Pro runs on iPadOS 13.4 and it comes with touchpad support. Apple has also announced a new Magic Keyboard for its latest tablet. It features a floating design, backlit keyboard, dedicated trackpad and a USB-C charging port.
Apple hasn’t revealed the India availability of the 2020 iPad Pro yet. The 11-inch Wi-Fi variant with base storage starts at Rs 71,900 and goes up to Rs 1,16,900 for the 1TB variant while the W-Fi+Cellular version is priced between Rs 85,900 and Rs 1,30900. The same storage configuration of 12.9-inch Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+Cellular version starts at Rs 89,900 going up to Rs 1,48,900 for the top-end model.
The Magic Keyboard will be available for purchase separately starting May 2020 priced at Rs 27,900 and Rs 31,900 for the 11 and 12.9-inch variants respectively.
MacBook Air 2020 Specifications & Pricing:
The new MacBook Air features a 13-inch IPS LED Retina True Tone display bearing a screen resolution of 1,600 x 2,560 pixels. The laptop is equipped with a Magic Keyboard that was introduced on the 16-inch MacBook Pro last year. The latest offering retains the same design as the 2018 model but with much better internals.
The MacBook Air 2020 is powered by the latest 10th generation Intel processors up to Core i7. There is Intel Plus graphics onboard that promises 80 percent faster graphics performance. The chipset is paired with 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and the device is offered in 256GB and 2TB SSD storage options. The MacBook Air 2020 features Apple’s T2 security chip. It comes with an 720p HD webcam and a three-mic array. The MacBook Air 2020 is the first time that Apple is allowing its customers to configure the processor on the Air and it is a welcome move with the i5 Air being competitive with the current 13″ Pro that still ships with a 8th Gen Intel processor. The Iris Plus graphics on the new Air certainly exceeds what the current 13″ Pro can do. However the 13″ Pro is due for a upgrade and it is rumoured that it would go on lines of the 16″ Mac and we will see a 14″ version.
The 2020 MacBook Air is equipped with stereo speakers and support for 6K external display. Connectivity options on the laptop include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm jack and two Thunderbolt 3 ports. The device draws its power from a 49.9Wh battery with support for 30W USB-C power adapter.
The MacBook Air carries a starting price tag of Rs 92,990 and will be available in stores in the coming week. It can be availed in Gold, Silver and Space Grey colour options.
