iPhone SE reportedly launching as iPhone SE 2020, said to come in three storage and colour variants

Apple’s iPhone SE successor has been long due since it was launched way back in 2016. The Cupertino-based company was supposed to launch the compact device on March 31st but it was delayed due to the current coronavirus pandemic. According to a Twitter user Jon Proser, Apple had held an internal meeting last week to plan the launch of its upcoming low-cost iPhone. It was tipped to debut on April 15th with sales commencing from April 22nd. Another report by 9to5Mac revealed that the smartphone will be called as iPhone SE 2020 and go up for pre-orders on 3rd April, but that did not happen.

The iPhone SE 2020 borrows design from the iPhone 8 and hardware from the iPhone 11. According to the leaked renders, the smartphone features a 4.7-inch display with top and bottom bezels. It comes with a 3D Touch ID for security. The iPhone SE 2020 is expected to flaunt a frosted glass back panel like the iPhone 11 series. It may come with a single 12MP rear camera. 9to5Mac further revealed that the upcoming offering could be availed in White, Black and PRODUCT (Red) colour variants. Apple is also reportedly working on a range of covers for the device.

The iPhone SE 2 will be powered by Apple’s A13 Bionic chipset which is present under the iPhone 11. It will be paired with 3GB RAM and offered in three storage variants of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. The iPhone SE 2020 is tipped to come with wireless charging support and Lightning port as well. However, from the leaked renders, the smartphone won’t feature a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The iPhone SE 2020 is expected to debut at a price tag of $399 (~Rs 28,000) for the base variant. Given the pace of leaks of the upcoming iPhone SE 2020, we expect it to go official on 15th April or even sooner than that.
