Apple and the case of the missing iPad / iPod touch camera

Rumors, tones of hype and disappointment. Apple has given this to the audience twice in the last few months. Last September when we were anxiously awaiting the release of the new iPod touch (and also the tablet), the iPod touch 3G did wow us with better gaming and upto 64GB of memory. Apple released the base model of the iPod touch 3G for just $199 and targeted it as an affordable, portable gaming device. However, the missing camera in the iPod touch was a disappointment  (I said so😛 ).We hard highly very convincing pictures suggesting a camera iPod touch, but that was nowhere to be found in the official release. After the iPod touch, 3G was stripped by reviewers, it was  noted that its housing / board had space left for a camera to fit in. What followed was guesses and explanations of why the camera was left out of the iPod touch…

Wondering why the old story again? Well, something similar just happened to us with the iPad release. For months / years there were rumors, expectations built up, and a camera was the least of the innovative surprise that Apple was expected to come up with. However, you saw what really happened. The iPad had no camera, none at all! And now begins the iPad camera rumors…

Evidence for the possible existence of a forward-facing camera in the iPad was uncovered by repair company Mission Repair in a shipment of replacement iPad enclosures it acquired on Tuesday. [Apple Insider] [Mission Repair].

The camera from a Macbook fits the slot in the iPad enclosure perfectly (along with the LED indicators), and this really makes us wonder? Was the camera left out of the iPad very last moment? Is a camera version in making? Technical glitch forced camera out (unlikely)?

All said and witnessed, we are left waiting for the 4th generation iPod touch and 2G iPad for a camera 🙂

Update: While even I had discomfort accepting that spares for the iPad are out already, here is a valid argument that this whole camera thingee is FAKE.
