Apple iPad 2: IPS Display To Be Replaced By Samsung's Super PLS

iPad display technology

Samsung announced a new type of display called Super PLS last year. This was with 30 patents to its name and it seems that their first customer is Apple! While we have not seen the Super AMOLED coming to Apple yet (as rumored extensively) and the rumored partnerships with Toshiba and/or Sharp indicates otherwise to us (also the fact that iPad has had display shortages, causing delay in launches). However its certain that Apple is investing very heavily on display technology and that remains a key area for them. The Super PLS from Samsung brings greater viewing angles, is 10% brighter and is 15% cheaper to manufacture.

Apple introduced the IPS display with amazing viewing angles last year. The IPS panel debuted with the Apple iPad and with the iPad 2 rumors buzzing up as we approach the first anniversary of the Apple iPad launch, we wonder what would replace the IPS display. There have been a ton of speculations on what would be the screen resolution of the new iPad (and now we know that the new Samsung Galaxy Tab is running 1280×800). Some have claimed 2x resolution (4x pixels) and many have claimed the same resolution or a minor bump. Each have their sources and own logic to it. However it looks much more likely that Apple would introduce a newer type of display, rather than a higher resolution.
