While Apple never officially comments on which factory or company makes a given Apple product, the market is always full of speculation. After the Japan quake and subsequent affect on the tech industry supplies, the focus on suppliers, OEM’s, component suppliers etc has increased. Foxconn is said to be making iPad 2 for Apple and even the smallest of incidents (or big) at Foxconn factories is reported widely in the media.
We heard sometime back that Apple is hunting for an additional supplier for iPad 3 / HD. This was seen as an attempt to diversify risk, scale faster or just fulfill demand. However a new report about the unrelease / unseen and unannounced iPad 3 claims that Foxconn is negotiating hard with Apple to retain rights to be the sole manufacturer for iPad 3.
Foxconn’s insistence on keeping iPad production to itself, leaves its competitor Pegatron (not to be confused with Megatron) hoping for iPad 4 and other computer products from Apple in 2012. Pentagron is also said to be receiving orders for as many as 10 million iPhone 5th generation (4S?).
