Apple trying to penetrate China with refurbished products

Apple is known to sell its refurbished and old models online via the Apple Store in US. However this time Apple has decided to do so in China by offering refurbished products at discounted rates online. This is seen as an attempt to penetrate the Chinese market which isn’t particularly ruled by Apple.

I have personally bought a refurbished MacBook pro in US and saved over $100 in the transaction. The same works fine, looks fine and gave me no impression that it is a refurbished product. This is particularly interesting as the cost saved is significant and Apple gives full international warranty on these products.  In China, Apple might want to promote a lot of refurbished products and probably get more sales out of the developing market.

iPod’s offered under this scheme include iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano. With a 22% discount compared to the list price these are pretty good bargains. A 1GB Shuffle is available at CNY308 (list price CNY398) whereas a 2GB shuffle is on sale for CNY438 (vs list price CNY 568). iPod Nano, with suggested retail price of CNY1,128, is available for CNY878.
