Mozilla plans to compete the app stores?

Mozilla is banking big on mobile (yes so is everyone else), and their latest challenge seems to be aimed at bringing uniformity in how apps are developed and used on mobile devices. After almost everyone in the industry following Apple to build an app platform (this includes Google, Microsoft, Nokia and more) Mozilla believes that the browsers can be powerful enough to replace apps.

Apparently the mobile firefox version ‘Fennec’ has the fastest javascript engine that we have witnessed so far (update: that’s their claim) and gives developers an easy way to get on mobile development, unlike what the SDK’s provide. Frankly I would stop them right there and remind that’s exactly what Steve Jobs first tried to sell the iPhone with in 2007. And you know how many Billion apps are downloaded after the app store was introduced. So can Mozilla really explore a way to get these apps vis the browser? The concept of ‘offline’ mobile apps and universal compatibility amongst mobile platforms will come in. Time will tell what worked, for the moment the Apple app store and Android market goes strong.

But do tell me how will you get this on the browser!
