Apple – 28 days, 1 million iPads sold

Apple has proudly informed us that they have achieved the 1 millionth mark with the iPad in just 28 days. This is more than 100% better than the 74 days iPhone took to sell 1 million units. Apple went on sale with the 3G version of the iPad recently and it is believed that the 1 million iPads have 30% 3G versions. Having used the iPad for close to half a month now, I am somewhat addicted to this while traveling already. No doubt that this is selling like hot cakes for Apple.

A few more revelations by Apple:

  • 12 million apps downloaded on iPad
  • 1.5 million ebooks
  • almost all 200k iPhone app works
  • 5000 apps specially for the iPad live!

Given the market Apple is exploring with the Apple iPad which sums up as a netbook, gaming device, ereader and media consumption slate, others will find good inspiration. The flood of Android based tablets we are seeing, finally has something to look up to.

“One million iPads in 28 days—that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”
